“Working abroad offers the chance to gain experience of other cultures and working styles, which is very important in a global economy where engineers are increasingly mobile and will work on international projects throughout their careers. Gaining experience on international projects early in your career can give you a competitive edge.”

Japanese Companies provide job opportunities which are as good as lifetime. During Employment management challenges occurring globally, Japanese companies would prefer to cut on costs instead of losing the skilled employees, thus giving an assurance of job security.

There is a rising demand for skilled professionals in Japanese companies and as many say about the shortage of professionals domestically, Japanese companies are moving to recruit highly skilled foreign professionals.

Also top Japanese firms are moving to recruit new graduates from foreign universities. This has attracted many young people to move in Japan for career growth.

In a recent employment survey of major companies conducted by Kyodo News, 13 of the 28 respondents said “they plan to hire more Non-Japanese employees in the future”. This has made the recruitment agencies to grow and reach Skilled Professionals out of Japan.

The government has launched a few programs for the new graduates in top foreign universities     to take up internships in the Japanese firms. Currently a program named “Project Indian Institute of Technology” was conducted in Japan where students from IIT were invited and offered internship in Japanese firms.

The government has also made an effort in order to increase the highly skilled professionals in Japan, by loosening the rules for permanent residency.

People with 70 points or more are considered HSP (highly skilled professionals) and granted the permanent residency in five years at the earliest.

Changes made by the government will give the workers scoring at least 70 points the permanent residency status in three years and for those with 80 points in one year.

Along with loosening rules for permanent residency Japanese government also provides some more benefits to the highly skilled professionals.

  • Have a good opportunity to take part in various activities
  • Faster immigration process
  • Initial visa validity is for 5 years
  • Dependent spouse have work opportunities
  • Can invite parents
  • And lastly a possibility to hire domestic help

Thus, working overseas will help you gain not only new language skills and technical experience, but can use the experience to demonstrate your ambition and ability to adapt to a different culture and working environment.
